The Sebum and Hair Loss

The sebum is an oily substance that is naturally produced and secreted by the sebaceous glands. The glands control hair growth and sebum works to condition the hair so that it is lubricated and able to grow healthy.
Did you ever noticed that men use not to have as many wrinkles as women?
Well, men secrete slightly more sebum on the skin than women and this natural oil is used to moisturise the skin and prevent it from drying out. Basically, sebum is vital for healthy hair.
Hair is far more complex than it appears on the surface. Too much sebum can close the pores and lead to acne or an increased level of DHT ( Dihydrotestosterone ) which is a male sex hormone.
DHT plays a major role in hair loss. But not all men with an oily scalp are bald, just those who are sensitive to the effects of DHT on the scalp.
Also those who have a family history of hair loss are more likely to experience baldness. Basically, hair loss related to sebum is genetic.
You can menatin a healthy lubrication of the hair by washing frequently with a proper shampoo.
